Renewal
Getting Home

Today I’m writing from a modest rented room in a family home on the outskirts of El Crucero—930 meters above sea level, the highest and coolest town in the Department of Managua, tucked into the crest of the local sierras.
Two months back, thanks to many of you, I was able to purchase a PC that opened the door to online work. For six weeks, I wrote bid estimates and proposals for a glazing and aluminum storefront installer in East LA.
That chapter has since wrapped, but it became something important—a bridge. It helped me cover the essentials—food, a safe place to land—and begin saving for my return to Los Angeles.
I’ve been actively interviewing for work in LA and have come close a few times now. Nothing has quite landed yet, but I can feel the momentum building.
None of this would have been possible without you.
Your support has helped me build something steady beneath my feet—a kind of scaffold I can stand on as I prepare to come home. My goal is to be back by May or June.
There are still real hurdles ahead: a steep exit-visa penalty from my overstay, the difficulty of accessing my online earnings here due to banking restrictions, and waves of anxiety that sometimes leave me frozen and sleepless.
There are days when the weight of it all feels heavy. But I’ve already come a long way—out of addiction, back from the edge of homelessness—and even when I’m scared, I’m still moving forward.
When I return to Los Angeles, I’ll be starting from scratch.
I don’t have family to fall back on—no siblings or extended relatives—just myself, and thankfully, some truly incredible friends. Without a financial cushion or stable footing yet, I’ll be navigating work and housing at the same time.
So, simply and sincerely: if you happen to know of a room, a house-sit, or even a temporary couch, I would be deeply grateful to hear from you. And if any opportunities come to mind—whether in architecture, teaching, construction, or general work—I’m ready and willing.

Every connection, every small opening, is a meaningful piece of the path that’s helping me make my way home—stronger, steadier, and more hopeful.
I’m grateful for you, and for the quiet ways hope keeps moving through the world, even when things feel uncertain and daunting in the world.
Happy Spring Renewal.
Stay strong.
